sunlight luminaire

spotted this cool shop along purvis street on a sunday morning.  unforunately, it was closed and its website http://sunlightluminaire.com is currently under construction.  i really wonder what the shop sells.  is it really a bicycle shop?

national museum - food gallery

when i entered this gallery, the first thing that caught my eyes was this tutu kueh trishaw!
i thought it's a really nice piece of display showing the early days street hawker of singapore.
there was also this bronze hawker box with two tiers for displaying food and the base for putting charcoals to keep the food warm.

singapore national museum - fashion gallery

this is my favourite.
the gallery is full of clothes and accessories worn by women in singapore during the 1950s and 1960s.
however, i don't find these totally unfamiliar.
today's boutiques are full of similar retro stuff.
it's just so amazing to see that fashion repeats itself after a few generations.
hence, never throw away your old blouse, dress or shirt!
they may come back in fashion and worth lots of money like today's vintage stuff!

when you enter, the first thing you see are the floral western frocks that the ladies here wore for parties in the 1960s.
unfortunately the picture taken is not so clear due to no flash photography.
these dresses with scooped and sweetheart necklines were usually starched and worn with can-can petticoat underneath.
next to it is the film show of the 1950s and 60s fashion trend and sam foo - tight fitting top and long pants - made of elastic fabric.

there were also many retro bags, glasses and shoes!
really gorgeous!

i was thrilled to see the 6o's bridal gown, vintage fabric prints and antique sewing machines too!

hope you enjoy looking through the photo album below.
sorry if you are looking for the kebayas and cheong sum as i've left them out.

a trip to the singapore national museum

felt like going shopping this morning.
but thought that it might be wise to save some money in the midst of this terrible financial crisis.
hence kaif suggested that i visit the museum after sending him to work.
so i visited the fashion, food, photography and film galleries!
it was indeed a very fruitful trip!
here are some shots of the architecture.
beautiful - a mix of the old and the modern.
but please pardon my poor photography!

lizzie

lizzie had a little accident in school yesterday.
cried a lot and dared not move her left arm.
no one knew what happened.
went to the chidlren's hospital for x-ray.
x-rays showed no apparent fracture.
but she was very reluctant to move her arm even when favourite candies were given.
so the doctor thought it's better to give her a big bandage till next week when she sees the specialist.
lizzie screamed and cried so loudly at the a&e as if we're operating on her arm.
but after receiving the bandage, she's all smiles.
even admired her new look in front of the pharmacy's mirror. :)

bathroom organizer!

i've always find cleaning the bathroom quite difficult due to lizzie's many pails and bath time toys lying on the floor! today while reading 99 low cost organizing tips on styleathome.com, it gave me an idea to keep her toys in a laundry bag.  then the idea of using pegs to keep all the pails and toys off the floor came to me!  taadaa...don't you think this is brilliant????
