expandable maternity dresses that can be worn forever!!!!!

:) these maternity dresses by marisol rodriguez  are so cute, so funny and so brilliant!

but i'm not sure if i will look good in them!
perhaps it'll look less funny if the revealing layers are of the same colour as the dress!
but it's certainly a fantastic design in my opinion!

weekend highlight: an unforgettable coffee experience at papa palheta

on saturday, we finally had the opportunity to locate this new coffee place (140 bukit timah road, hooper rod) which our cousin recommended.
papa palheta (ppp) specialise in roasting and serving specialty coffee only, no other things!!
all of us, including my daughters, enjoyed our cups full of goodness!
they had babycinos (steam milk) of course!
the space there is amazing.
the people who started this place are passionate about coffee and they really know their craft but are humble enough to say that they are still learning!
they are so passionate about coffee that they actually travel to the country of origin physically to purchase the beans.  Hence you can say that they know who grow the coffee beans they are roasting and selling!

what's interesting is this: every first saturday of the month, they will be conducting a tasting session!  (try it out!)

after having a cup of really good coffee, my nespresso coffee taste so much more bland and sour!!!
can you imagine?
i have never experienced this before - each time even having drank lots of coffee outside, a cup of homemade nespresso coffee still give me great satisfaction.
but today i felt terribly dissatisfied with nespresso.
this is scary....

2 other places for really good coffee are:
1) kith cafe
we did revisit this cafe even though we didn't enjoy the pancakes there during our first visit
we were addicted to their coffee and basil and mozarella cheese sandwich, toast and strawberry jam
they roast their own coffee beans too and serve really good coffee, sandwiches, toast and homemade strawberry jam
each cup of coffee is just $3.90

2) segafredo

happy children's day!

it's children's day party in school again!

Lizzie wanted me to bake for her friends but the teacher said they don't have time to eat the cakes in class so the cupcakes have to be packed for take-aways!
thankfully, lisa taught me how to store beautiful cupcakes in plastic containers by resting the cakes on the lids and covering them with the containers!
how brilliant!
i'm so exhausted from writing little notes, stating the ingredients in the cupcakes!!!!
i hope the kids will enjoy the cakes!
i didn't have the patient to lay the sugar beads neatly.
i simply scattered them randomly over the cupcakes.

bodum new campaign:

this is such a good ad!

but i'm still a big fan of nespresso!
its coffee is really good and its machine easy to use and clean!
but i agree that it does create a lot of waste.
nespresso should try to solve this problem.

truffles in the kitchen: pan fried kisu with leek and teriyaki sauce

went to ISetan supermarket and could not help it but bought some japanese produce - nicely deboned kisu fish, leek, sukiyaki pork slices and grapefruit.

this is what i did to the kisu fish:

i rinsed the fish and dried them with kitchen towel, rubbed the fish with a little salt and black pepper corn, then lightly dust them with plain or corn flour to prevent the oil from splattering when frying. After which i pan fried the kisu fish with a clove of smashed garlic and a sprig of thyme in 2 tbsp of olive oil till slightly crispy, then removed the fish and herb, set aside the excess oil for later use.  Then i cooked the leek in in the same pan till soften but not brownish.  Lastly, i removed the leek from the pan and added some (1 to 2 tsp) teriyaki sauce with the set aside oil and heat it up till slightly boiling.  You may add water and cornstarch to get a thicker consistency.
Then i poured the sweet sauce over the fish and leek. :)

the grapefruit looked so beautiful but it's so bitter!!!!  But thank goodness that Lizzie still enjoyed it!!!!

favourite read: monocle magazine sep issue 26

The september issue has several articles that captured my attention.

1. necklace by Ecojewel (based in Vicenza, Italy)
picture shows a necklace from its hibiscus collection, made from 3 different colours of silver: white, yellow and black, each went through a special treatment.
basically the firm purchases all the manufacturing scraps of precious silver left over from selected local factories to produce their jewellery and produce all their marketing material and packaging in italy instead of China from recylced materials so as to achieve a zero footprint for their brand from start to finish!
i find their jewellery really charming: ethical, vintage, elegant and non-ostentatious but i'm not sure about their pricing!!! ;p

2. AP moller school in Schleswig, northern Germany
this is my dream school boy!
Why wasn't my school so cool???
I'd have been such an inspired and eager student instead of one who dread going to school!!!
watch the reportage of the school by monocle here

3. Norway re-engineering the way its citizens participate in ticking the right box by appointing a team of designer from - Blueroom Design Studio, Innovativoli Industridesign and KAdabra Productk Design - to rebrand the election system, to make voting simpler, appealing and important!
This is ultra cool!
From monocle article: back in your box - Norway

4. the Globe bikes are really beautiful! as charming as the vespas!!!
i wish singapore has a biking culture!
sorry guys, have to stop blogging now coz marissa is crying! Gotta go!  Check out the bikes of you have not seen them! :)
