{ prologue } & JAMS

As usual, i had an hour or so to burn just before picking up lizzie from school.

I ended up at Ion orchard again, but this time, i thought i should explore the shops from level 1 onwards instead.
I went all the way up to fourth floor and discovered this bookstore called {prologue} and a cafe, JAMS, inside.

THe bookstore is nice and neat like Kinokuniya and Page One but much smaller.
There were books down stairs and stationery above which can only be accessed by stairs or from the car park, hence not pram friendly (thus i didn't go up)!

After walking around for a while, feeling a little disappointed, i decided to step into the newly opened cafe JAMS.
I was pleasantly surprised to see lovely cupcakes and a wide variety of bakeries and to be greeted by the friendly owner of the cafe, joanne.
She quickly and eagerly introduced me to their lovely cupcakes, cheese cakes, brownies and even cookies that she claimed were made from really good, wholesome ingredients with no artificial colourings or flavouring or preservatives.  They use good dark chocolate for their desserts. :)  The cupcakes were also made with organic raw sugar.

I bought two cupcakes, of course, as i am really in the mood for cupcakes these days.
I had a lemon banana for myself and a strawberry one for Lizzie!
Truly, the cupcakes were very moist, and the icing creamy (not laden with icing sugar and hence not overly sweet).
Perhaps that's why i don't feel thirsty after eating these cupcakes which i often felt with other cupcakes.

There were other desserts that look really good but i guess i really have to practice some self control since i've been baking quite a bit too.
need to watch my waistline!!!! ;p

I will go back there to check out the stationery.

By the way, don't miss the Kikki.K Stationery & Gifts boutique at B2!  It has lots of beautiful swedish designed stationery and gifts!

weekend highlight: an unforgettable coffee experience at papa palheta

on saturday, we finally had the opportunity to locate this new coffee place (140 bukit timah road, hooper rod) which our cousin recommended.
papa palheta (ppp) specialise in roasting and serving specialty coffee only, no other things!!
all of us, including my daughters, enjoyed our cups full of goodness!
they had babycinos (steam milk) of course!
the space there is amazing.
the people who started this place are passionate about coffee and they really know their craft but are humble enough to say that they are still learning!
they are so passionate about coffee that they actually travel to the country of origin physically to purchase the beans.  Hence you can say that they know who grow the coffee beans they are roasting and selling!

what's interesting is this: every first saturday of the month, they will be conducting a tasting session!  (try it out!)

after having a cup of really good coffee, my nespresso coffee taste so much more bland and sour!!!
can you imagine?
i have never experienced this before - each time even having drank lots of coffee outside, a cup of homemade nespresso coffee still give me great satisfaction.
but today i felt terribly dissatisfied with nespresso.
this is scary....

2 other places for really good coffee are:
1) kith cafe
we did revisit this cafe even though we didn't enjoy the pancakes there during our first visit
we were addicted to their coffee and basil and mozarella cheese sandwich, toast and strawberry jam
they roast their own coffee beans too and serve really good coffee, sandwiches, toast and homemade strawberry jam
each cup of coffee is just $3.90

2) segafredo

sunday morning @ kith cafe

we spent a pleasant morning here with our friends this morning.

i really like the look of the cafe!
got really excited as it reminds me of gertrude & alice bookstore cafe in sydney - looks cosy and nice to hang out except that there aren't books.

my hubby read about it from monocle magazine!
it must be good, we thought!

the inside of the cafe is furnished with cork board tables and stools, with a huge chalk board.
there were 2 tables outside the cafe with picnic mats too!
the mat was a great idea for kids!

the coffee was good.
unfortunately, the pancakes were disappointing, they taste rather dry and were not very fragrant.
lizzie spat out the pancake!

the toasts with homemade strawberry jam and egg benedicts were ok.
nonetheless, it's a nice place to hang out.
their ice-cream looked exciting though.
:) we will still go back there to try other food.

shop idols - gertrude and alice cafe bookstore

just watched the video: shop idols by monocle.

5 shops, which seems to have united its entire neighbourhood and restored a sense of old-fashioned community, were highlighted in the video.

our favourite is gertrude and alice book cafe in sydney australia.
this is my dream shop man!!!
K can settle all the books and i can settle the food at the cafe!
perhaps we can call it the KAif and Sarah book cafe???
nay...maybe not...there is a story behind gertrude and alice...it's a great name for a bookshop!
no wonder K kept asking me to watch this video!
it's far better than booksactually, polymath  and book cafe here in singapore!!!

according to the cake + the knife, a love story you can find cheap books, good books, delicious food, divine chai tea and great coffee by the beach at gertrude and alice bk cafe!
after reading this blog, i'm now craving for the chai tea...the time alone in a lovely bookshop by the beach...and the cakes!!!!!

images from the cake + the knife, a love story
